Worthington Elementary School Strings Grading Policy
Lesson Attendance and Preparation (35% of Overall Grade)
Students need to attend each scheduled Strings lesson ready to learn and play. If the student is absent from school, their attendance grade will not be negatively affected.
Performance Assessments (30% of Overall Grade)
Strings is a performance-based class. It is expected that your child will commit to practicing their instrument for 15 minutes a day, at least 4 or 5 times per week. Making this commitment will ensure progress from lesson to lesson. In class, your child will verbally receive informal feedback on a regular basis. This is to guide your child's at-home practice and promote steady progress. There will also be formal, graded assessments roughly every two weeks. I will be looking for steady progress, which reflects a commitment to at-home practice.
Participation (35% of Overall Grade)
Students will need to have their instrument, method book and/or concert music, and materials folder with them at every lesson in order to participate in Strings class.
Concert Attendance
Worthington Concert Dates for 2012-2013 School Year
Winter Concert: December 17th, 2012
Spring Concert: May 16th, 2013
School concerts take place at 9:45am and 2:45pm and are for other students at Worthington.
Evening concerts take place at 7:00pm at Howard High School and are for parents, friends, and family members.
Concerts are graded school events and are required by the nature of being in a performing group, and also by the Howard County Public School System curriculum. When your child does not attend the concert, their absence has a negative impact on the rest of the group and they are denied the opportunity to enjoy the benefits and rewards of accomplishment through hard work.
